Mr. Paul Collins » Welcome to Middle School Science, Drafting/Engineering Design, Creative Writing, and Study Skills!

Welcome to Middle School Science, Drafting/Engineering Design, Creative Writing, and Study Skills!

I'm a Navy brat, but also an Idaho boy. I'm an avid outdoorsman and love my garden.  I earned a Horticulture minor from U of I and I am currently working on my Master's in Educational Leadership. What makes me different from other middle school science teachers: I use a 3-year spiraling curriculum that allows opportunities to revisit and deepen understandings of previous science content. All three grades study the big three Science Disciplines (Earth, Life, Physical) each year and this gives them opportunities to increase both the breadth and depth of what they are learning!
In addition to teaching Middle School Science, I also teach Creative Writing, Drafting (Technical Drawing/Intro to Architecture), Engineering Design, and Study Skills (which includes IDLA course opportunities). 6th Grade learns Keyboarding during Homeroom.
Please see the "Classes" Links at the very bottom of this page for course descriptions!
 Welcome Mr. Mitchell!
We are fortunate enough to have a teacher intern join us for the Spring UI semester. Here's some information about Mr. Mitchell:

Hello, I am Joseph Mitchell a student at U of I. I am a teacher-intern helping Mr. Collins with his classes. I am wrapping up my majors (Biochemistry and Secondary Education) this Spring. I have always enjoyed helping people discover latent talents and learning new knowledge, so teaching was an obvious career choice for me. I’m a very social person, so I use those skills as much as I can while teaching.

In my free time, I am an enthusiastic reader and enjoy playing most sports. I enjoy almost everything to some degree, but psychology and the science behind social interactions are especially interesting to me so much of my free time goes into learning and evaluating people.

Classroom critters in the room include:
Bob, Banana Joe, and Garnet the Crested Geckos
Juan and Alexandra the Leopard Geckos
Ion and Leonardo the 3-Toed Box Turtles
We also have Madagascar Hissing Roaches, Dubia Roaches, and Annam Walking Sticks.
Steelhead eggs arrive from Idaho Fish and Game in the spring.
Fish tank water is provided by Moscow Culligan- many thanks to them!
