A Message from the Board Chair
Dear MCS Families,
My last letter for this page was about celebrating MCS’s 20th anniversary and wondering what the next 20 years would bring. Who knew that they would bring us a global pandemic?
I said in that letter that “MCS was founded to give students access to state-of-the-art technology in their classrooms – not just for the sake of having technology, but to integrate it into lessons in order to provide students with the best possible opportunities.” As it turned out, that technology focus put us in a relatively good position to pivot to online and then hybrid education.
In spite of that, I know that the switch to online classes, and then to hybrid classes, was really challenging for many of our students and their families. I want to thank all of you for rising to that challenge. I also want to thank our teachers and staff, and of course our fearless leader Mr. B., for their dedication and creativity in finding ways to keep reaching students throughout the crisis.
Our staff are really delighted to have students back in their classrooms full time this fall, and I am sure your students are happy to be there. I know that not everyone is thrilled about the fact we have chosen to require masks inside the buildings. They are not much fun to wear! However, the board made this decision because we believed it was the best way to keep students and teachers in the classroom while maintaining their safety. We all look forward to a time when case rates decline enough that we can consider safely lifting that requirement.
My last letter also noted that, “It’s always great to see so many people turn out for school events like the Back to School Picnic, the Winter Festival, and the school play.” I look forward to a time when we are all able to gather again as one school community to see and celebrate all your children’s accomplishments.
Sincerely yours,
Leslie Baker
