Class Policies
OTHER CLASS POLICIES:
Food/ Eating in Class:
I believe that a hungry kid is an unhappy kid. And an empty stomach does not equate to a good learning environment. Therefore, students are ALWAYS allowed to eat a SNACK in class- following food safety and labs, of course! Healthy and appropriate food choices are a priority. No pulling out chocolate cake or an entire lunch! Snacks must be simple and cause minimal mess.
Absent Work Due Dates:
Students are given one extra school day to complete and turn in work for each day that is missed (a total minimum of two days). After that extension has been reached, the late policy applies as normal (beginning on that extended due date). Examples: A student missed Monday- the work is given on Tuesday and is due at the beginning of class on Thursday. A student misses Monday and Tuesday- the work is given Wednesday and is due at the beginning of the following Monday. It is the student's responsibility to get the work that is missed!
Assignment Corrections (redo work):
1) Incorrect questions must be written on a separate sheet of paper.
We have a zero-tolerance policy for copying from other students or from research sources. Any plagiarized work will receive a zero grade and a lunch detention will be given. Any subsequent plagiarized work will result in zero credit and a week of lunch detentions.
The following explanation comes from www.plagiarism.org:
ACCORDING TO THE MERRIAM-WEBSTER ONLINE DICTIONARY, TO "PLAGIARIZE" MEANS:
-
to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own
-
to use (another's production) without crediting the source
-
to commit literary theft
-
to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source
“In other words, plagiarism is an act of fraud. It involves both stealing someone else's work and lying about it afterward.”
Classroom Animals:
Living organisms provide authentic, hands-on learning experiences for students. To ensure the safety of the students and the animals, the following safety procedures are followed in the classroom. The consequences for not following these are severe.
-
Students are never allowed to open cages without direct teacher supervision or permission.
-
Students are never allowed to handle any organism without direct teacher supervision or permission.
-
Students will never be required to touch, hold, or handle any living organism unless they express a desire to do so- students will not be allowed to force other students to hold or touch these animals.
-
Students will never be required to observe the feeding or eating process of organisms.
