Student Led Conferences went so well. Thank you MCS families!
Having conversations together with the kids reflecting on their work, cooperative learning, reading, how to take notes and make maps, while also explaining self evaluation was interesting and informative. It was so cool to hear how honest each student was about what to improve for the next quarter.
And, it was especially wonderful to see them with you!

P.S. We will have a fieldtrip to the City of Moscow Water Reclamation and Reuse Facility this coming Thursday. Information will come home in the Planners on Monday.

I look forward to meeting with all of you this Thursday and Friday.

Thank you!

Cute Fuzzy LIttle Halloween Monsters by Brooklyn and Lilly!

In keeping with the spirit of the week, these two classmates made some fun art together and gave it to me-- along with the fav candy and unit of preference, Skittles! Their cooperation is what this week is all about! Thank you!!
Tomorrow's Costume Day will be great and hope to get a few good pics!

Thank you to all the residents of the area that brought plastic for the Collection Event!  We made a bale! This one weighed 780 pounds and will go to Trex. You can keep bringing your plastic to MCS!

Concentration! That is what we see here. The kids practiced measuring the correct amounts before the experiment.

Showing awesome responsibility--Kids are getting signed up for Conferences!!
Here is another great example of what kids can communicate. Since the last Thursday, the information on the board has been up for the kids to write down and bring home to talk about so that you all get scheduled.

Although, there are 20 (Updated as of this morning!) signed up on the list, two others have made plans to meet at other times-- which I love to do. So, if you need a different time and date, please let your 4th grader know and we can get that scheduled.

Thanks sooooo much and I really love conferences and you all getting to see the learning, progress, and successes of your child!

We made a bale of plastic!!

Last week we filled the small compactor at the Moscow Recycle Center with 38 bags-- about a week and a half of collection. Our community is very interested in keeping all these types of plastic out of the landfill and water systems.

Which liquid will have the strongest reaction with the Pop Rocks?

We prepared for 2 weeks thinking through all the parts of the Science Process. On Friday, the kids did a great job conducting the experiment. Today, we will get to discuss the results and write conclusions.

Raking Leaves at Good Samaritan

The kids did a wonderful job cooperatively working to help clean up a lot of leaves on the Good Samaritan Campus. First, there was a short tour by Tammie Poe, and then their Facilities' Keeper, Mr. Chris talked to the kids about how to use a rake and bag the leaves that get composted on site.

The kids talked about working together and how fun it was! We will get to go back for another project.

Working with a partner to come up with a question and then turn it into a hypothesis.

This is hard work. The students have been bringing in all kinds of natural world items like pinecones, rocks, horsehair, shells, and more rocks, seeds, and bird nests.
They have made observations about these items. Now they are learning to ask questions and move their thinking in the direction of creating a hypothesis that will help them create an experiment. The process of these steps is what takes the longest to learn and is the most necessary to deepen the thinking of how to conduct an experiment. The kids were working with a partner to share thinking and create the questions. Today was an excellent example of how the kids are growing in their abilities to cooperatively learn. We had some very fun and interesting conversations.

Lots of interesting things learned at the Moscow Public Library, City Hall, and the Latah County Historical Society Research Annex.

It was a very full day! The kids each used the Valnet System at the library. They asked questions to Jen Pfiffner, Moscow Assistant City Supervisor about the city, and then Zach Wnek of the LCHS showed all the collections at the Annex.
The picture shows kids reading which we were able to do for 30 minutes after they all checked out books.

Clarissssa is excited about the Field Trip for the 4th Grade on Monday, Oct 7, to the Library, Latah Historical Society and lunching together in the Chambers at City Hall.

The kids did a very good job getting Planners signed with all the details of the upcoming trip this coming Monday. Please join us if you can.

Great Learning at Appaloosa Horse Museum

The giant headdress pictured is from a member that did good deeds for the members of the tribe. Each feather is evidence of taking care of the needs of the people. The kids loved knowing this information because the stereotype of a headdress is with war. In this picture, the kids are taking notes of cultural artifacts and making sketches. Ms. Aston and Executive Director Crytal White taught about so much! Plus the kids got to meet the Appaloosa Horse, Skywalker.
