Ms. Cheryl Kintner » Welcome to 2nd Grade!

Welcome to 2nd Grade!

Hello, I am Cheryl Kintner.  The students call me Ms. K!  My teaching assignment at MCS began in the fall of 2003.  I continue to enjoy being part of this positive school environment.

I graduated from Western Oregon University with a BA in Elementary Education with a Basic Reading Endorsement and Spanish Language Endorsement.  I hold an MA in Administration and Curriculum from Gonzaga University.  My professional seminar paper was entitled "Increasing the Potential for Creative Thinking."

Teaching and learning continue to be my passions.  I look forward to a wonderful school year with your child!

Class has earned a stuffy to bring to class!
Dear Parents:

This week we wrote our rough draft of an insect paragraph.  On Monday, we will rewrite and put it into a book to share with you.

We continue to work on strategies to help us remember our addition math facts.
Reviewing double addition facts and near doubles facts is very helpful to your children.

        ( 5 + 5 = 10, 5+4 = 9 , 5 + 6 = 11)  for example

Recently, we reviewed how doubles helps us to subtract.  We will also review how addition and subtraction go together.

This week, I shared the book Molly's Pilgrim by Barbara Cohen with the class.  For their homework this coming week, I will be sending home a paper person to dress from the country of origin of your family.  We learned that all of us are pilgrims to the United States of America.  Later this month, we will build our Wampanoag Village.  This is the tribe of Native Americans that helped the First Pilgrims winter in their new home.

Enjoy your weekend, the weather is lovely!

Warm regards,

Cheryl Kintner

Dear Parents,

Thank you for signing up for a fall conference during the week of October 28 - November 1.  Thank you for the treats for our Fall Party on Wednesday from 12:45 - 1:30.

It is also Spirit Week so Monday is Blue and White Day, Tuesday is PJ, Hat Day, or Crazy Hair Day and Wednesday is Costume Day.  It is always a busy week, but one that we hope is fun for the kids!

On Wednesday, second grade will go on their first field trip to the Insect Museum at the University of Idaho.  Dr. Luc LeBlanc will share his amazing insects with us.  We leave at 9:45 on Wednesday morning and will be back at school after 11:00.  Since we are taking a school bus, we will have room for parents.  You are welcome to join us.

The spelling test will be given on Tuesday.  Homework for this short week will be to continue to read.  This supports growth in conventional spelling and in writing.

Parent Volunteers for Reading/Language Arts ?

Dear Families,

I so enjoyed having a parent volunteer on Tuesday morning, that I thought I'd ask to see if any parents are available on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday?

Our reading time begins at 8:45 and continues to 10:10.  I work with three reading groups and have seatwork and Lexia for the students who are not working with me.

Please let me know, if this opportunity would work for you.  Thank you.

Sincerely,

Cheryl Kintner

For the Week of September 9 - 13

Dear Families,

I am pleased with the effort that the students are using to complete their work.  The homework packets came back on Friday with reading at home jotted down on their reading logs!  What a wonderful start to our year!

Please help  your child remember their tennis shoes for Wednesday.  They do not need to be new, just clean.

Today, we caught our grasshoppers and took out our magnifying glasses.  Insects are super interesting and will help us understand biological adaptations and diversity.  Yes, they can catch some at home and bring them in!

Thank you for your support.  It makes such a difference.  I couldn't do this job without you!

Sincerely,

Cheryl Kintner
