Seventh Grade Homeroom / Math
Hello! I am very excited to be the 5/6/7th math teacher at Moscow Charter School!
My interest in teaching started at a very young age. I enjoyed mentoring programs, tutoring other students and adored my own teachers. I attended Eastern Washington University in Cheney Washington to get my teaching certification. Prior to graduation, I had many jobs in youth programs at summer camp, as a birthday party clown (I make balloon animals!) and more. After graduating I chose to substitute teach for a couple years to experience many different classrooms. I wanted more stability so took a position as director of a pre-school for a short period before completing two AmeriCorps terms. Service to the community is very important to me, and am excited to be part of a school that also values service. I enjoy hiking, skiing, painting, remodeling, am an avid reader, and LOVE to dance!
Although I enjoy teaching all subjects and ages, I feel strongly that math is crucial to students’ success. I have worked with many students who feel very negative about math and their abilities in math. I hope to empower my students in math, so that their skills can open doors for them! As Mary Poppins said, “find the fun, and the job’s a game.” My goal is to help my students not only “find the fun” in math, but gain confidence in their ability to learn.
Parents, you are a crucial part of the classroom and if you are available to volunteer to help work one-on-one or with small groups please let me know. You do not have to feel confident in your own abilities to help students with theirs.
