MCS Current News

Dear MCS Families,

10/8/2010 - From Dr. Axman

On October 11th, our Monday Morning Meeting will be lead by Third Grade. Please remember that our 6th graders will be in McCall at Moss Science Camp. We also have our monthly School Board Meeting on Tuesday evening Oct 12th  at 7:30pm all are invited to attend,

This week has been full of transitions and important events. We opened the week with our story teller, Betsy Bybel , coming to our Monday Morning Meeting. She had the teachers act as trees as she told a tale of keeping the trees safe because they provide food and materials for baskets. The students loved seeing the teachers participate in acting out the story.

Our cafeteria supervision has changed a bit with Mr. Cole being back with the primary students. His music and stories keep lunch time a happy experience for our younger students. In addition, the intermediate students will be sitting with their grade level and waiting for their teacher to dismiss them to class. Cafeteria rules will be posted that read as follows:

As a Moscow Charter School Student, I will Remember to:
  • Be Polite
  • Have Good Manners
  • Use Table-Talk Voice
  • Respect the “Quiet Signal”
  • Stay in my own space
  • Leave My Space Clean
  • Be a Courteous Listener
Cafeteria Rules
  1. Clean hands before entering. Have ticket ready for ticket taker
  2. Sit properly and quietly at the table, using good manners and inside voices
  3. Eat your food and do not share items
  4. Stay seated until you are dismissed (intermediate class will sit with grade levels)
  5. Clean your place at the table and throw away trash
  6. When dismissed go directly to your classroom
  7. Listen and obey all noon time assistants and volunteers
The Teacher work Days were very productive. Teachers went to all kinds of workshops including the CORE Conference on Vocabulary, Six Trait +1 Writing Conference, The Daily Five, The P.I.E. Conference and The CAFÉ Program For Engaging All Students In Daily Literacy Assessment And Instruction. The teachers were all inspired by their newly acquired skill and will come back on Monday with some fresh and innovative ways of teaching in their classroom.

Our Book Fair was a great success. We were able to fulfill all of our teacher wish lists and students were able to purchase some interesting books. Thank you for supporting us by purchasing over $1,600 worth of books. As a result, the school received 40% of the sales in classroom books. We really appreciate the hard work of our Book Fair Chair Person, Julie Sperry, who was assisted by a past Book Fair Chair Person Heather Frazier. We also want to thank the many PAT volunteers that made the book fair possible.

We had our first MCS Academy Day on Wednesday October 6th. Students were really enthusiastic about the fun and informative workshops. Anyone could see all of the students developing a new appreciation of How Their Body Works. In addition, I know they came away with greater respect for their own health. Thank you to all of the community professionals who donated their time to make this day possible.  (read more about Academy Days)

Our Open House was well attended. Parents had an opportunity to view student’s work, shop at the Book Fair, and see our new computers and computer cart. It is always fun to give students an opportunity to share their success with parents.

An All-School Field Trip to the Museums at Washington State University is in the works. We have received a grant to take the whole school to Pullman on October 29th. This activity will take up the entire day. Please be on the look our for trip information and cafeteria brown bag lunch requests.  (read more about the field trip)
See you soon…
Sincerely yours,
Marie Axman Ed. D.
