Marimba Camp! Summer of 2014
The last week of June, from 6/23 through 6/27, Moscow Charter School will be hosting our first Marimba Camp. Zimbabean teacher and performer Dr. Tendai Muparutsa will be leading the camp, along with music educator Jacqueline Fallon. The camp is open to students from 6 to 14 years, and takes place each day from 8:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
We will hold two levels of marimba instruction led by Dr. Muparutsa, and drumming instruction by Ms. Fallon. The entire group will assemble for dance instruction. There will be short breaks for recess, snack and lunch. Snack will be provided, but lunch must come from home.
Dr. Muparutsa earned a PhD in ethnomusicology from the University of Alberta, a Master of Music Education from the University of Idaho, and now teaches at Williams College in Williamston, MA. He is the leader of Chiroto Marimba ensemble, of which Ms. Fallon and MCS music teacher Mary Donohoe are both members. He teaches and performs extensively around the American West, from New Mexico and Colorado to Washington and Idaho, teaching adults, youth and children.
Ms. Fallon has taught in the Cle Elum, WA district for seven years, and has organized several marimba camps for her students during that time, under the direction of Dr. Muparutsa. She earned her BMusic Ed from the University of Montana.
Mary Donohoe and other members of Chiroto and Sesitshaya Marimba ensembles will assist at the camp.
