Additional Information to aid your preparations for school:
Student Fee: Idaho has continued reducing its funding of public schools this year. Over the past 4 years the cuts have added up to a 20% reduction in funding. These cuts have critically threatened the specialty programs in art, music, language, movement, and technology which are so central to the MCS experience. In order to maintain the specialty programs, the MCS Board of Directors approved an increase in the student fee in 2010. State funding continues to be insufficient, so we will need to continue requesting payment of this fee for the upcoming school year. The income from this fee supplements the budget for our specialty programs, and will also be used this year to support the school’s new STEAM focus.
The fee is based upon the number of children in a family attending the school and the income level of the family. Families who meet the federal eligibility guidelines for the free and reduced lunch programs are only asked to pay $15.00 for the entire year. Fees can be paid with registration or over the course of the year (the school secretary will help track installment payments). The following table outlines the fees for the upcoming year:
| 2012-13 Fee | |
| Kindergarten students | $82.50 |
| First - Sixth grade students | $165.00 |
| Maximum fee per family | $310.00 |
| Families Eligible for free & Reduced Lunch Program | $15.00 |
MCS is a public school and non-profit corporation; these fees may be considered a donation for tax purposes. Please ask for a receipt when paying your fees and consult with your tax professional about how to claim these fees on your annual tax filing.
Please note that the Student Fee is separate from the cost of Extended Day Kindergarten. (Extended Day Kindergarten Agreement )
Attendance: Moscow Charter School has an accelerated curriculum that requires daily attendance for satisfactory achievement and extended opportunities in the arts, language, and physical education. Tardiness and frequent absences, regardless of the reason, have a major impact on student learning. Absences also have a negative impact on school funding, which is based on daily attendance levels. Absences are recorded on Student Report Cards. If a student has ten (10) absences in a semester the student will be dis-enrolled from MCS; except in cases of family emergencies or for medical reasons.
